Case study
Transformer bund remediation and relining
Decontamination, surface preparation and a new protective lining for an oil-contaminated transformer bund at an operating substation.
[TBC: approval required before publishing client names.] This is an example entry to set up the case study format. Confirm every detail below with the project team before it goes live.
The challenge
The bund around an in-service transformer had collected oil and rainwater over many years. The concrete floor, walls and plinths were stained and contaminated, and the bund needed to be returned to a condition that could be inspected and maintained.
[TBC: confirm the specific defects found, e.g. cracks, failed joints]
What we did
- Removed oily water and residue from the bund.
- Decontaminated the floor, walls and plinths.
- Prepared the concrete by grinding to remove the contaminated surface layer and create a profile for the lining.
- Applied a protective lining system to the floor and walls, detailed around drains, grates and handrail posts.
[TBC: confirm lining system used and any repairs carried out]
The result
The bund now has a continuous, clean lining that is easier to inspect and keep clean.
[TBC: confirm outcome details, programme and any constraints worked around, e.g. live equipment or outage windows]
